A Private Garden Party – Hattie & Tim’s glorious September Wedding
Take some time with this one. I’ll admit there are a lot of pictures here, but there wasn’t anything I felt that I couldn’t include from this stunning Garden Party Wedding, held at Hattie’s family home in Surrey. Being a Surrey wedding Photographer means I get to go to all of the lovely venues, but it’s often the family ties that really make a wedding special – and they don’t come much more special that this.
The gardens, the house, every detail – everything was just perfectly placed for the most incredible moving and emotional wedding.
Let me go back to the beginning…
I met Harriet and Tim in Godalming, near to where I live after a to and fro telephone thing. It turned out they were based in Norwich, and were planning on getting married at Hattie’s parents’ house near Pirbright. It just so happened that the house and Gardens were beautifully tendered with stunning landscaping and gorgeous established Rose gardens surrounding a listed cottage, exposed beams and country flagstones. The whole place was open to the public through the summer as a showcase for being awesome apparently and my interest was piqued. But before then I was instantly taken with Hattie and Tim. They’d made such a great effort to come to me, and talked about how booking their photographer was as much about connecting on a personal and emotional level as it was about the photography itself. As soon as we met I was hooked and excited to get to know them both. I can say without doubt that I fell in love with them both there and then, and I can also tell you that Tim is a hugger! They really made me feel very welcome and invited from the outset and with their Together shoot under way on a very cold Norfolk walk, I could tell that their wedding was going to be a shining light in my Summer…
The wedding was more than I had hoped for. Photographically speaking I was completely in my element. Everywhere I looked there was deep history, powerfully connecting people to place. Home.
The house and gardens went from being a backdrop, to being a styled set piece, to being a humble character integral to the wedding. Essentially everything really just became easy. No stress, no folly. The day turned out to be elevated, proud, and powerfully moving, and ultimately one of the most intimate and extraordinary wedding days I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of.
In the end it was a rocking party, too, and saying goodbye at the end of the day was hard to do, but I did it with one of those inward smiles that you find when the world has just skipped a heartbeat.
